Meet the “I Do” Crew
Each month we’re asking our ”I Do” Crew the questions every recently engaged couple is asking, from photography to guest lists our trio of recently or soon-to-be wedded bloggers share their insights into planning a wedding. We’ve already asked them to tell us how they chose their wedding venue, how they navigated the tricky territory of inviting plus ones to a wedding, and whether their weddings cakes were bought in or home-made.
This month we’re asking the I Do Crew whether they had, or are planning to have, an open bar at their wedding.
The recently married one: Married in August 2018, describes her wedding as ‘a perfect day better than I ever imagined.’
The groom: Married in July 2018, describes his wedding as ‘a chilled and fun day, with loads of our friends and family.’
The bride-to-be: Getting Married in September 2019, describes her upcoming wedding as ‘the day I marry my best friend surrounded by the people we love the most.’
We ask the I Do Crew about open bars at weddings:
The recently married one
We had “Charlie’s Gin Bar” which was free to guests. The rest of the drinks were a buy-your-own affair.
The groom
We had an open bar because our venue didn’t have an alcohol license. My Dad and I found a really cheap channel crossing to France last November so filled our car with a whole heap of lovely French alcohol.
The bride-to-be
We have a half price corkage for our wedding breakfast so we’re supplying wine, beer, cider and prosecco. We’re having a little holiday to Brittainy next year to stock up on some yummy wine and cider! For the evening, we will put an amount behind the bar (limited to selected drinks) and once that’s gone, our guests will need to buy their own drinks. We decided to have an open bar because we wanted our guests to thoroughly enjoy the party!
The wedding coordinator
There is no expectation to have an open bar at your wedding, some couples do and others don’t, it’s entirely up to you. Usually the couple will pay for at least one drink per person during the wedding breakfast and a glass of something bubble to toast with. We have a lovely bar at Leigh Court and couples can choose which drinks to have on the menu, including ones named after them!
Next month, we ask the I Do Crew how they wrote their wedding guest lists.
